A Quick Look Behind the Scenes - Product Photography

A Quick Look Behind the Scenes - Product Photography - Sugar Skull, LLC

When I was in high school I spent a couple years as a photographer for the newspaper and yearbook. Little did I know that I would need those skills again later in life.

As a small business owner you sometimes have to take on tasks that are not necessarily in your well developed skills list. One of those for me has been to assume the role of product photographer. I can honestly say I'm not yet very good at it, but I am getting better over time, I think.

There have been a couple big jumps in our product photography, both equipment related.

First we got a soft box and started using it with a tripod instead of hand holding the camera. You can see those results in all of our newer candle photos. The tripod was a real game changer for product clarity.

The second big jump came when we got a basic studio backdrop/lighting kit. I'm still learning how to put that to best use, but you can see the improvement in the latest photos of our embroidered bags and cross-body bags.

Hopefully I will continue to improve at this aspect of the business. We always want to present out products in the best possible way, so I will keep learning and growing.

We'll share more Behind the Scenes content in future News4You postings. Hopefully you enjoyed this one.
